Determination of unstable zones around circular tunnels by TUNSIM software

Abstract:
Magnitude and distribution of ground displacements around a tunnel while it is being bored, is one of the vast and significant subjects in the tunneling industry. Because of the important role of these displacements, there is a need for calculating them. One of the methods of determination of tunnel stability is to draw safety factor curves around every tunnel, which might indicate different values based on the distance between the curve and tunnel, and the amount and orientation of the primary stresses. Based on this information and Kirsch equations, software was designed by visual basic. This software can calculate displacements around circular tunnels and it also Mohr-coulomb and Hook-Brown safety factors. 7 tunnels were investigated by this software, and the results were compared with PHASE2 and rocsupport software, which are based on numerical methods. The results showed good similarity with these two software.
